I have an old 14K herringbone necklace and I am curious what type of price is fair. I don’t want to get ripped off.

I have heard of alot of people going around and buying up old jewelry for prices that are less then current market value and taking it to a location that offers a little more for it. I live in the Bay Area and would like to find out where I can take my gold to sell without the middle man.

In Rochester NY, there is no jewelers that sell 18K gold. Is it the same in the rest of the united states. If so why is that?
